These charts need to be considered as you decide who to vote for in the upcoming nominations and inevitable general election. Please consider the following facts from the attached charts:
1/ We are borrowing $3 billion this year and much of it is to pay salaries and day-to-day expenses.
2/ We have the highest per capita revenue in Canada but we also have the highest per capita expenditures on our Provincial Government.
3/ We are spending 12% of our expenditures on debt interest alone which also works out to be over 15% of our revenues.
4/ We are spending over twice as much on interest costs per person than any other province.
Difficult choices need to be made. We all need to be part of these decisions. Pretend you are explaining to your (or someone else’s) children and grandchildren why you are voting the way you are and use the long term financial and physical health of the province and its residents as your justification. Try and remove your short term situation and fears from the discussion. I know this is challenging but the only way to change our future is to change the way we vote and what we expect from all our leaders. (this includes all elected officials, senior government leaders, union leaders, business leaders, academics, and leaders within our families and communities) We can change the way we approach our challenges We are spending over twice as much on interst costs thatbut first, we need to admit they are there.
